Santa Monica Apartments, Santa Monica CA
Near the corner of Santa Monica Boulevard and Fifth Street in Downtown Santa Monica, this project was conceived as an extension of the unique character and urban fabric of the surrounding area.
As the project was being planned, it was observed that the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and Fifth Street was characterized by commercial architecture expressed in an off-white color palette. Here, elements of 1970s architecture, including ribbon windows and grid-like punched openings, helped define the character of the place. The design intention was to build upon these unique qualities, extending and reinforcing the existing architectural character along Fifth Street.

Additionally, a contemporary residential architectural statement is expressed through the use of private balconies and stepped landscape elements, which provide a garden-like setting for residents. The project is currently being processed through an expedited planning process, with completion planned for mid-2023.
