San Diego Affordable Housing, San Diego CA
Located just north of Downtown San Diego Airport, Mission Apartments is a transit-oriented, affordable housing project. The district in which the project lies is unique for its industrial warehouse buildings, as well as the historic Mission Brewery building, which is adjacent to Mission Apartments. Additionally, also adjacent to the site at the south is the trolley station, which can connect the building’s residents to all areas of San Diego.
The architecture consists of a rectangular, single-loaded courtyard building with tuck-under parking and a centrally located, on-grade courtyard. The building’s wood structural system allows the three stories of residential units to align with the on-grade parking bays, creating an efficient, cost-effective housing solution. Additionally, a pedestrian bridge was designed to provide the family-oriented residents with direct access to the courtyard and outdoor amenity areas. The building is now completed.
On the wood podium construction, each residential unit bay corresponds to a ground-floor parking bay.
